Mindfulness is not therapy, but a form of attention training. Every exercise is meant to increase your awareness of the here and now.
You’ll be concentrating on your breathing, participating in guided mediations and visualizations and doing yoga poses and sitting positions to increase awareness in your daily life. “You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf” is a known statement by Jon Kabat-Zinn, founder of Mindfulness. With this metaphor he means that we can’t stop influences from outside, but we can learn how to handle these influences in a better way. This is essential to the training, learning how to make choices by focusing on thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and impulses.
