W*acking is a means to discover your most authentic, partying, powerful self.

A dance-style born during the 1970’s underground scene by queer people of color, who needed a place to be themselves and have fun. Waacking ( or Whacking ) was born out of Punking. The word “Punk” was a derogatory term for gay men and so the original Punkers wanted to shift the meaning of the word and give it a positive glow. The popular TV show soultrain featuring Tyrone Proctor brought waacking to the public eye and exposed multiple dancers to it. Catching the beat, posing, theatricality and grooving to the music are some of the original elements that Punking & Waacking embodies.

In this class, we create a safe space, learn about the style, its history and we focus on expression through dancing. The classes focus on free styling, every class is different and open to all levels and all backgrounds.
