Are you joining?

Do you want to know more about the art world, but don’t know where to start? Our ‘In Broad Strokes’ event is the perfect moment to discover the broad strokes. Each time, we break down an art movement. With introductions by experts and performances by local artists from various disciplines, we gather all the facts you need in one evening to show off your cultural knowledge.

In the first edition of this event, we take a dive into absurdism. It may be April 1st, but we’re not kidding when we say you’ll want to be there! Expect dance, music, paintings, and more during the packed program. To make the evening complete, we have invited two speakers. Dr. Daan Evers will offer a philosophical perspective, and Hossein Tavazoni-Zadeh will tell us more about theatre of the absurd.

Speakers

Dr. Daan Evers –

Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy who’ll tell us more about the absurd from that perspective. Specifically about Thomas Nagels and Albert Camus and their ideas of the absurd.

Hossein Tavazoni-Zadeh

PhD Student at the RUG, arts culture and Media, and theatremaker who will introduce us to the theatre of the absurd.

In the gallery

Emilia Paul – “The One or The Other” – Photography focused on a feeling inseparable from the moment experienced. Part of a larger collection

Sofia Tsouchnika – Multimedia artist, recording past experiences, dreams and stories and showing them through different materials

Rean Luimstra – Physical art that holds up a mirror – both for the viewer and for the artist – as a way to reflect, understand, and grow.

On stage

A Creature’s Guide to Human Fashion – A short semi-improvisational theatrical performance by RyoWulf

Love is the warmest color – A dance performance by Marein Sietske with light design by CREATE by Ri

YouYouri – Theatrically absurd dancepop that balances between chaos and personal stories. Together with DJ Broek, YouYouri shows that we are so much more beautiful together than alone, and that life doesn’t always have to make sense
Stefanos Vavakos – Poetry that dives into the space of the search of meaning and the chaos of finding purpose, while ending the poems with a sense of harmony and cohesion of humans with that lack of concrete evidence of meaning, thus making the most out of it.
